Will the Asian beauty take over Miss Universe 2008?

Once again, Miss Universe is back with all its glitz and glamour. Last year’s Miss Universe was a major upset as underdog Riyo Mori took away the crown. This year, 80 contestants are competing for a newly designed crown at the Nha Trang city in Vietnam.

As usual, North America and South American contestants are the hot favorites but that does not mean Asian beauties are lagging behind.

Simran Kaur Mundi from India has already caught audience’s attention in the swimsuit round. Simran is confident about winning the pageant. She believes that Indians have the potential to rule the world and they should go ahead and prove just that. Simran wants to return to India with the crown. In 2007, Indian contestant Puja Gupta made it to the top ten.

Riyo Mori’s winning the Miss Universe 2007 contest inspired 21 year old Miss Universe Japan, Hiroko Mima. Hiroko is a student from Tokushima. Sun Lee from South Korea is also getting strong support.

Other major Asian contestants are: Shenise Wong (Singapore), Nguyen Thuy Lam (Vietnam), Levy Li Su Lin (Malaysia), Jennifer Barrientos (Philippines), Wei Ziya (China), Gavintra Photijak (Thailand) and Mima Hiroko (Japan).
