Ryan Reynolds will participate in New York Marathon on 2nd Novemeber

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Ryan Reynolds is his fabulous six pack abs (do not know how much of it is real and how much courtesy ala Photoshop). Any way, the big news is, Ryan Reynolds is going to participate in the upcoming New York marathon on November 2, 2008.

On November 9 2008, Ryan Reynolds wrote an open letter to Huffington Post where he talked about his experience of New York Marathon 2006 where he was a spectator. He wrote:

I expected exhaustion, but what I didn't expect was to see just how much these runners had to EARN their prize. It was emotional. The pain was etched into their faces so deeply, you'd swear they'd spend the next 3 weeks looking like Abe Vigoda. I saw guys coming in to finish with bleeding nipples. Why in the hell were their nipples bleeding?

Reynolds mentioned two reasons behind his participation. First, his meeting with Michael J. Fox, who has been suffering from Parkinson's Disease. He met Michael J. Fox, and promised him that he would compete in the marathon. Second, was his father, Jim Reynolds, who suffered from Parkinson’s disease for fifteen years. Ryan wrote in the letter how the disease “cruelly stripped” his father of his independence. The money he raised from this marathon event, will be donated to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The organization raises money to fund Parkinson’s research.
