Summer 2008 has been good so far for Bollywood

In spite of high fuel price and economic slowdown, Hollywood has done well in the domestic market. Price of ticket has risen from $6.88 to $ 7.16 in 2008. Still, movies have remained the cheapest source of entertainment for the Americans compared to sports, theme parks and travel.

This year, there were not many block busters like Shrek, Pirates of the Carribbean, or Spiderman. With only two weeks left for the summer to finish, Hollywood’s collection stands at $4.16 billion in the domestic market which is equal to the previous year’s collection. This is a big achievement for the American movie industry.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is the dark horse of the summer collecting more than $477 million, making it the second highest grossing movies of all time in USA after Titanic. The Dark Knight alone made a big difference in the overall collection of the film industry this year. Still the movie is attracting audiences around the country and by the Labor day weekend, the movie would collect $500 million.
